Monday

I think I should call this trip the "top on Tour", we woke to lots of clouds and looked as if it could rain at any time, we left the top on. We headed to the Badlands, pretty cool. Stopped a couple of times for some photos. They were doing road construction...fun! It rained off and on.
By noon we hit the famous Wall Drug and scored a parking place right in front for a great photo op. We had a great lunch inside, coffee was 5 cents...almost like free! we walked quickly thru some of the shops and away we went. Next stop was the Black Hills.
We drove the Iron Mtn road, went thru the one lane tunnels and made it to Mt Rushmore. We spent about an hour there taking photos and looking around. It is still so awesome to see it even after all the times I have been there.
Our next stop was Crazy Horse monument, it has been under construction for over 50 years and probably will be for the next 150 or more. It is pretty spectacular as it is but would be so cool if I could ever see it finished.
As we left Crazy Horse the clouds were moving in, could not even see the statue for all the clouds. It started to rain as we headed towards Lusk, WY. The skies did not look good at all, dark, lighting strikes and raining. We were stopped again by some construction projects, one lane roads so we had to wait for the other direction cars to pass so we could take our turn. We did arrive at Lusk about 7PM, found a motel after a couple of "No Vacancy signs". As we were parking the Deuce the guys next door came over to see us. They had arrived about 30 minutes before us, also came from Mt Rushmore, they hit a hail storm. They were driving a rental Jeep SUV that was peppered all over the hood and the right side and the top. Even the windshield had a crack in it. Boy am I glad we spent time at Crazy Horse. I think that cookie I bought and the free coffee they have might have saved us from the storm.
In the morning its the car wash to get the mud off of the car and then off for Denver to visit some hot rod shops.
Some real good news, so far every tank of gas has made 20 mph, I think finding and fixing that vaccumn leak must have helped.
