Sunday day one

We woke up to clouds, as we were ready to leave the skies opened up. It looked pretty socked in so we put the top on. We headed thru St Cloud to Hwy 23 west, within 70 miles the sky was clearing and the rain stopped.Good deal!
We were greeted by the local Kandiyohi County Sheriff by Wilmer, he issued me my first "Driving Award" for the trip, (boy I miss Barry right now, he's the one that always gets those.)
In just a few more miles we met Darrick, Jane and Greg on their Harley's coming home from their multi thousand mile bike trip, that was good timing, cool to see them.
At Florence, MN we headed straight west on hwy 14, what a great road, very little traffic, no trucks, nice smooth surface. We just cruised about 65 (the speed limit) the whole way.
We arrived in the capital city, Pierre, SD about 5 PM and decided that was it for the day.400 miles, it was 8 hours, time for a beer. We ate dinner at the Longbranch bar, drank a couple of beers, found a nice little motel and relaxed. We have more than enough days to make it on time so we are not going to push it hard. This is vacation time!
Monday it will be the Badlands, Wall Drug, Black Hills and maybe the night will be Lusk, WY, thats the plan, but always open to adjustment.
